Lewis Smith Lake is located in north Alabama, just 20 miles northwest of Birmingham on the Sipsey Fork of the Black Warrior River. It was originally created back in 1961, and since then has become an extremely popular destination for recreation and comfortable living. The lake was formed when the Alabama Power Company built the Lewis Smith Dam, which is still one of the largest earthen dams in the eastern United States.
